Chaos Comes A Callin'
~~~Intermission~~~This chapter is to give GoGreen a break. He's in the story, but is not the main character.
It's a sunny day in GreenVille, but there's someone in town who is wearing a raincoat and is holding an open umbrella. He just got off the plane at GreenVille's airport and has already caused a ruckus. Everyone is staring at him wondering who he is and what he's doing in GreenVille! Why? Because he walked off the plane backwards!
Sandra Sunburn was having a great day shopping in GreenVille. She loves being outside in the sun, but she always has to wear sunscreen because a long time ago she got really sunburned. As Sandra was putting on more sunscreen, she saw a strange site before her! She was extremely curious to find out why a person was dressed as if it were a rainy day! The person was wearing a raincoat and had an umbrella!
Now, Sandra Sunburn is the type of person who, if she's curious about something, she just HAS to ask! So, she went up to the person and said, "Hello! Who are you and why are you wearing a raincoat on this beautiful, sunny day?" The person (who she then realized was a guy) asked, "Are you talking to me? I think everyone should wear a raincoat when it's sunny!"
Sandra Sunburn was very confused. She asked him, "Why should I wear a raincoat? You wear that when it's raining!!" Then she remembered a boy who went to school in GreenVille many years before. "Are you Pande Opposito?" she asked. "I remember you, you did everything backwards! It's nice to see you again. How are you doing?" Pande Opposito retorted, "I don't remember you and it's certainly not nice to meet you. I'm having a bad day because the airplane was on time and the food was delicious!" Sandra asked him, "Are you moving back to GreenVille? You've been gone for a very long time." He answered, "I'm back because I won a free plane ticket to GreenVille. Everyone cheered when I left." (He had gotten kicked out of the last town and everyone paid for the ticket so he'd leave!) As Pande Opposito left, while walking backwards, he called out, "I'm a busy person seńorita and I have to go now."
Pande Opposito had been born in GreenVille and went to elementary school there. His family was from Spińia and was know in GreenVille for doing everything opposite. It was rumored that Pande's great, great, great, great, great grandfather sailed with Cleestopher Clombus, who first discovered the island of GreenVille. Cleestopher Clombus was actually looking for Indińia, but Pande's grandfather went the opposite way. When Clombus said to turn port (left), he turned starboard (right). The history books of GreenVille actually say that without Pande's grandfather, GreenVille wouldn’t have been discovered. Cleestopher Clombus praised Pande’s grandfather and set aside (saved for him) a big chunk of land. The land has remained in Pande’s family ever since then. To this day, no one’s quite sure exactly how much land they own!
Sandra Sunburn was excited to see her old acquaintance Pande Opposito and went told everyone he was back. Hannah Heart and GoGreen Man were glad to hear he was back because they had fun in school together. Not everyone was happy though! Roger Recycle and Water Woman were worried when they heard the news. "I remember when Pande was just a little boy. His daddy would put recyclables in the garbage and garbage in the recycle bins! It always confused me." said Roger Recycle. Water Woman didn't have good memories either. "I remember that boy would always come to my water garden and build dams to block the water! It would have been okay, except that he would put shampoo in there and the bubbles would go all over the place!"
GoGreen Man and Hannah Heart agreed that he was kind of strange, but knew that he had a kind heart. "Why don't we have a welcome back party? That would be a lot of fun and I think Pande would like it." Hannah Heart remembered that Pande Opposito never came to any birthday parties, even though he was invited. "How will we get him to come?" she asked. "I know!" said GoGreen Man. "We'll just send him an invitation that says, 'Don't come.'" Everyone laughed at that idea and agreed that was probably the best way to get Pande to come to his welcome home party.
Although Pande had only been in town for a little bit, he had already received several tickets from the police! When it said “No Pedestrian Crossing”, he crossed the street anyway. When he passed a sign that read "Do Not Litter," he dropped his garbage there! After giving him five tickets in five minutes, the police realized someone strange had come into town!
When he arrived home, instead of cleaning house (it had been empty for a long time) he went inside and plopped down on the couch. Coughing and waving his hands to move the dust away, Pande realized he needed to clean house. But, instead of cleaning the inside first, Pande Opposite went outside!
Several days later, Pande Opposito was still cleaning the outside of his house when the mailman came by. “Here’s some mail for you, Pande,” called out the mailman. Pande was surprised, he usually didn’t get mail. He replied, “Today must be a bad day because I received some mail.” Shrugging his shoulders, the mailman put the letter in the box (which was upside down) and walked on.
Pande Opposito pulled out the card and read it. He was very excited. The card said, "You are not invited to a welcome back party at Hannah Heart's house." He'd never been to a party before! This was the first time he was not invited to one. “I will go get ready to go to this party!” He exclaimed.
Meanwhile, at Hannah Heart's house everyone was trying to get the party set up and were disagreeing about whether or not he would even show up. There was a banner over the doorway that said, “This is not Pande Opposito’s welcome back party!”
Some of the guests didn’t really know Pande Opposito, so they didn’t understand the banner and asked GoGreen Man about it. He tried to explain about Pande Opposito. “Several of us went to school with him when we were younger. He was an unusual kid in that he did things opposite from the way they were supposed to be done. He’s been gone for a long time, so we want to welcome him back. Since he usually does everything opposite, we knew he wouldn’t come if we invited him. To show him support, we’ll do things his way this time. Later, we’ll try to help him change.”
Everyone was anxiously waiting; it was time for the party to start. Suddenly the door burst open and in pranced Pande Opposito. Actually, pranced is exactly what he did! A collective gasp was heard throughout the room. Why? For one thing, he actually showed up, but also because of the way he was dressed. Pande wore underwear and shoes on his head. Instead of a shirt, Pande wore jeans with his arms through the legs. Instead of jeans on his legs, Pande had his legs in the sleeves of a shirt! In other words, where his pants should have been, he had a shirt. His feet, were bare!
Hannah Heart was a little surprised, "Well, I think Pande got a little worse! He never did THAT in school!" Everyone laughed and settled down to listen to her give a special performance on her violin (remember, she loves to play). Even Pande Opposito behaved long enough to listen to her. Besides, he was glad he went because he wasn't invited and not only that, he got to wear exactly what he wanted to wear.
GoGreen Man was glad the party went well. Hannah Heart did great job on the violin; Pande was having fun and everyone seemed to be getting along. He hoped the peace in GreenVille would hold.
News of Pande Opposito reached Pol' Tick Al and Dr. Pollution. They both remembered his family and their odd ways. Dr. Pollution, while talking to Pol' Tick Al, said, "I’m glad he’s back! GreenVille needs someone like him. It’s only a matter of time before everyone gets tired of him. When they do, we can use him on our side! I'm sure I can find a way to use a person like him."
What will happen to Pande Opposito? Will everyone continue to overlook his oddness or will they turn against him? GoGreen Man and Hannah Heart really try to help their former classmate, but will it be enough?
