GoGreen Man Learns About Dr. Pollution

Since Dr. Pollution’s last attack involved every person in GreenVille, GoGreen Man was determined even more not to let Dr. Pollution escape punishment.  It was bad enough when Dr. Pollution was attacking GoGreen Man, but when he decided to get all of GreenVille involved, he went too far.

In order for GoGreen Man to capture Dr. Pollution, he knew he needed to study Dr. Pollution’s past.  The chemical explosion that altered his brain was common knowledge, but GoGreen Man wanted to find out more.

In his studies, he found some interesting news.  Roger Recycle, Dr. Pollution and Professor Fusionstein were all classmates!  “Why didn’t anyone tell me this?  This is important!” he wondered to himself.  “I need to go talk to Roger Recycle and ask him what he remembers about Dr. Pollution.”

Roger Recycle was busy sorting recyclables when GoGreen Man showed up at the Recycling Plant.  “Hi, GoGreen Man!  How can I help you?” Roger called out.  “Did you have any new ideas about recycling?”

GoGreen Man shook his head as he answered, “No, I came today to talk to you about something else.” He paused but then continued, “I was doing some research on Dr. Pollution and found out you, Professor Fusionstein and Dr. Pollution all went to school together.”

Shrugging his shoulders, Roger answered, “Yes, that’s right.”

“Why didn’t you guys tell me this?” asked GoGreen Man.

“I’m sorry, GoGreen Man.  We did go to school together. As a matter of fact, we knew your father, too.  He was younger than us, but we were friends anyway.  To be honest, GoGreen Man, we just don’t like to talk about the past.  It brings back bad memories and is difficult to talk about,” Roger said firmly.

“Okay, but I really want to understand what Dr. Pollution was like in high school and how he could turn so evil,” GoGreen Man insisted.

“I will tell you that Fusionstein and Pollution were friends and alike in a lot of ways.  They were the two top students in school, both preferring science over the other subjects.   There was a lot of competition between the two.  No matter how hard Pollution tried, he could never get in first place and I know for a fact that really bothered him,” Roger mused.  “I remember even after they graduated from GreenVille University, they still competed.   There was a GreenVille science competition in which every scientist in GreenVille was asked to participate.  The judges were looking for the most interesting and innovative inventions.”

Roger Recycle paused for a moment to think back to that time.  “I heard Pollution was determined to win the competition at any cost.  People at the time said he broke some basic science rules.”

Roger stopped and commented, “Before you ask GoGreen Man, no, I don’t know what those rules were!  I did hear it was very dangerous, though.  Anyway, apparently Pollution didn’t care that his experiment was very unstable and that’s when the explosion happened.  After that is when we heard his brain had been altered, but we didn’t know much more than that because he disappeared from GreenVille for a while,” Roger finished.

“Do you know what the chemical compound was, that he tested?” GoGreen Man asked.

“No one knows the specific mixture he used.  I’m sorry, GoGreen Man this is all I can tell you.  I haven’t been around Dr. Pollution since he went to GreenVille University.  Science didn’t interest me much – I was more into history and recycling,” Roger laughed.

GoGreen Man found all of what he just learned very interesting.  He was still puzzled though as to why Professor Fusionstein never talked to him about Dr. Pollution being his classmate.  Determined to get more answers, GoGreen Man went to see Professor Fusionstein.

As always, Professor Fusionstein was busy working on a new project.  “Professor Fusionstein, can I talk to you for a minute?” GoGreen Man asked.

Whirling around, Professor Fusionstein called out, “Hi GoGreen Man!  Do you want to see my new project?  I’m working on the wind, it’s quite fascinating.”

“Well, I really need to talk to you about something else first,” GoGreen Man hesitantly replied.

“Sure, what is it GoGreen Man?” answered Professor Fusionstein curiously.

GoGreen Man went on to tell Professor Fusionstein about what he learned in his research and what Roger Recycle had to say.  He then asked Professor Fusionstein, “Why didn’t you tell me you knew Dr. Pollution and went to school with him?”

“Well,” sighed Professor Fusionstein, “it’s somewhat difficult to talk about.  I feel the reason Dr. Pollution turned evil is because of me.  To be honest, I take some responsibility for it.  Because he was trying to win the GreenVille science competition, he did something to endanger himself.  Why?  So he could be better than me.  Sometimes I think that I should have let him win.”  He shook his head.  “But, you know what?  That’s in the past.  I can’t change the past I can only look at the future.”

GoGreen Man felt bad for bringing it up because he saw it really bothered Professor Fusionstein.  He knew, though, that it was important to understand Dr. Pollution and where he had come from if he was to figure out a way to capture him in the future.

What was going through Dr. Pollution’s mind when he thought about Professor Fusionstein?  What was the chemical compound he used that altered his brain – what was his experiment?  Will the mystery ever be solved?  Will GoGreen Man get the answers to his questions?  Find out in future Adventures of GoGreen Man…
