Pol Tick Al – King of GreenVille
When GoGreen Man resigned, there was nothing to block Pol’ Tick Al in his plan to become king. He had already earned the trust of the congressmen and the citizens of GreenVille, now the only thing left was for him to be the put into place as King of GreenVille.
But, the people of GreenVille still did not lose hope that King Nature might return. Unfortunately, the time was not yet right to suggest a replacement for King Nature. Pol' Tick Al knew that time would take care of that problem, but he wanted to find a way to make them give up hope faster. There was only one way he could think of to make that happen...have proof that the King was dead. Dr. Pollution wasn't really going to kill King Nature. He wanted King Nature to be punished in the dungeon of Doomsville.
Pol' Tick Al called Dr. Pollution in frustration, "Why don't you just get rid of King Nature's memory? Do something so that I can be made king sooner. The citizens of GreenVille miss their King and won't replace him until they have given up hope." Dr. Pollution disagreed, "I'm not going to do that. It will make it too easy for King Nature. I want him to suffer as much as I have because of him and GoGreen Man. He will be made to see what his precious GreenVille will turn into under your rule. In order to make you King, I will find a way to make GreenVille believe their king is gone forever." Dr. Pollution ripped the King's pajamas, to make it look like a shark attack, and dumped them on the shores of GreenVille.
When the police were patrolling GreenVille’s shores, they came upon a mound. Rushing forward to investigate, they came to realize it was the king’s royal pajamas, ripped to shreds. It was all over the news about finding King Nature’s clothes. When GreenVIlle’s citizens heard the news that their king had apparently been attacked by a shark, they were very upset and went into mourning for their king.
Pol Tick Al gave a speech at GVTN to be broadcast around GreenVille. "This is a sad day for GreenVille. As you all know, the ripped clothes of our dear King were found on the shore today. Unfortunately, we must take this as evidence that something evil has happened to him and that he will not return. Although he will always remain in our hearts as the greatest King in GreenVille's history, we have to move on. In celebration of his illustrious reign, we will have a memorial service that will show the tremendous honor and love GreenVIlle felt for him."
GoGreen Man didn't and wouldn’t believe King Nature was gone. He was beginning to think this was all part of a wicked plan, but he had absolutely no proof. At this point, even some of the congressmen were beginning to think everything was happening with perfect timing. But, the time was not right for anyone to make complaints.
Memorial music played three days for the King. Hannah Heart especially was sad and spent her time crying. She missed the King so much. Water Woman had a water feature of King Nature playing in her fountains as memorial in which to remember the King. All of GreenVille’s citizens had their flags at half staff in honor of and to remember the king. It was one of the saddest times in GreenVille’s history.
When the mourning period was over, Pol' Tick Al made his move. He suggested to congress that a new king needed to be elected as soon as possible for the future of GreenVille. But GreenVille's congress didn't have any strong leaders besides Pol' Tick Al. Actually, he was the only candidate for King, especially since he'd become "environmentally friendly." Of course, since he was the first person to talk about what had happened to King Nature, a lot of the citizens in GreenVille trusted him and were comfortable with him - which was exactly what he had planned!!
Meanwhile, outside GreenVille, GoGreen Man was searching for King Nature on his own. Even though he resigned from his job as the protector of GreenVille, he was determined to find King Nature, especially since he didn't trust Pol' Tick Al. Yes, King Nature's clothes were found ripped and yes, it looked like a shark attack, but GoGreen Man believed something wasn't quite right. Because of this, he started searching the ocean areas. As you may know, GreenVille is bordered by mountains on the north, but the southern part of GreenVille has beautiful beaches. There are a lot of fish and a lot of sharks!
At the southernmost tip of the island was a dangerous place called Doomsville. It was off limits to the people of GreenVille because of a nuclear accident a long time ago. GoGreen Man had a sneaking suspicion that he needed to do a search of Doomsville, but he couldn't understand how Dr. Pollution was able to get in and stay in without being exposed to the radiation. Nuclear radiation is something that isn't smelled, tasted or seen but it is very harmful at high exposure because it destroys living cells. That means you can get very sick and possibly die. Since it wasn’t even safe for him to go into Doomsville, GoGreen Man decided to look on some islands off the shore of GreenVille.
Are you wondering what happened to King Nature? Well, when he woke up he was surprised to discover he was inside a very, dark place. He wasn't sure but he thought it was underground and he bellowed in anger and frustration, "I am the King of GreenVille! How dare you bring me here and hold me captive, Dr. Pollution!" Dr. Pollution heard this and taunted him, "You've constantly destroyed my plans for GreenVille, so I feel it's fair for me to destroy yours! You will stay here and I will let you know how GreenVille will be destroyed. HAHAHA!" "Do not ruin Greenville! It's a beautiful place that I, and the citizens of GreenVille, love. My whole life is dedicated to making GreenVille a safe, pleasant place to live. I don't care what you do to me, but do not harm GreenVille. I am sure GoGreen Man will find me and he will stop you from your evil plan!" retorted King Nature. That really angered Dr. Pollution, "I hate GoGreen Man! Worry about yourself because I have plans for GoGreen Man, too!" With that announcement, King Nature began to get concerned. He knew GoGreen Man could take care of himself, but Dr. Pollution was acting very irrational (i.e., he was acting crazy). So he prayed for the safety of GreenVille, GoGreen Man and the citizens of GreenVille.
After much thought, the GreenVille congress held an emergency meeting, this time to discuss the future of GreenVille and election of a new King.
In order for a new king to be elected, all the congressmen have to agree because it’s a lifetime appointment. GreenVille always elected the most honorable, respected person to be king. Many congressmen nominated Pol' Tick Al because of his influence during the King's disappearance. Pol' Tick Al's acquaintance and fellow congressman, Paul Tician was the biggest supporter of the nomination of Pol’ Tick Al for the position of King. Being an unscrupulous (wicked) politician, he had selfish reasons for doing it. Pol' Tick Al had promised he would be the leader of Congress.
Most congressmen in GreenVille didn't know what to do about the situation and were really worried about how things would turn out. Two of the more concerned politicians were Dewey Goode and Mr. Gravytrain. They were old friends of King Nature and very honest politicians. They didn't want to rush into electing a new king, especially since they didn't trust Pol' Tick Al. Unlike the other members of Congress, they remembered how Pol' Tick Al helped Dr. Pollution during the Petrol City crisis. Although they couldn't complain about his positive environmental changes for GreenVille, they knew they didn't trust him as their king. Besides, finding torn clothes wasn't enough proof to them that King Nature was gone.
When the emergency meeting continued, there was a very heated debate (a lot of arguing) about who would be king. Unfortunately for Dewey Goode and Mr. Gravytrain, there weren't enough congressmen who opposed the election of Pol' Tick Al for king. The only thing they could get passed was a little clause stating that if King Nature somehow came back to GreenVille, Pol' Tick Al would have to relinquish (give up) the crown and title of King. Pol’ Tick Al didn’t like not being the permanent king of GreenVille, but he was very confident that the king would never return, so it didn’t bother him too much. Besides, he needed all the votes of the congressmen in order to be king. Agreeing to the clause seemed to be the only way he could be elected king.
Among GreenVille's citizens, there was still sadness lingering. Especially among King Nature's close friends like Hannah Heart, Roger Recycle, Water Woman and Sandra Sunburn. Water Woman just couldn’t believe the king was gone, while Roger Recycle said he would be remembered as the greatest King of GreenVille. But he cautioned the others saying, “Remember we really don’t know what happened to King Nature. All that was found were his clothes.” Hannah Heart and Sandra Sunburn agreed with him. Curious, Sandra Sunburn asked Hannah Heart, “Have you seen GoGreen Man lately? I haven’t seen him around. How’s he doing?” Hannah Heart told her, “He’s not giving up on King Nature. He’s still looking for clues. Right now he’s looking on all the islands off of GreenVille’s coast.” Sandra Sunburn angrily retorted, “He shouldn’t have resigned! It wasn’t his fault! I think Pol’ Tick Al is lying about King Nature being dead. I just don’t trust him, at all!” Everyone agreed with her, but also agreed that without GoGreen Man and King Nature, the future of GreenVille was looking very bleak.
The congressmen had voted. It had been decided. With everyone voting for him, Pol' Tick Al claimed the title, King of GreenVille. He won the votes of Dewey Goode and Mr. Gravytrain when he agreed to give up the crown and title if King Nature came back. The future of GreenVille was now in Pol’ Tick Al’s hands.
When Waste Woman and other Pol’ Tick Al supporters heard the news, they shouted for joy. Waste Woman said, “I will always support Pol’ Tick Al. He’s the perfect choice for King. Finally, there is someone who will do something for GreenVille. I hate recycling and all the silly laws that GreenVille has right now! I hope Pol’ Tick Al builds his Petrol City, so I can shop all day long and …oh, there are so many things he can do now!”
King Nature’s close friends were very sad, but knew they couldn’t have stopped the election. They were worried about what Pol’ Tick Al would do and were suspicious of him. Unfortunately, all they could do was wait and watch what would happen.
On Pol’ Tick Al’s coronation day (the day he was crowned), there was a huge party to celebrate the new king. Part of the celebration included a speech by Pol' Tick Al. "This is a new day for GreenVille. I will make big changes to GreenVille that will be remembered for years to come. Growth is what I want in GreenVille. There will be more businesses, buildings and conveniences, like Petrol City, than there have ever been in GreenVille before. Some changes won't please everyone, but they will all be for the greater good of GreenVille. Thank you for entrusting me with the care of GreenVille, I will do my best to make it a place I will be proud of for years to come!" When the people of GreenVille heard this speech, it made them afraid. It reminded them of how he used to act, especially during the Petrol City proposal.
Will GoGreen Man be able to find King Nature before it's too? What will Pol' Tick Al do first?! Now, it seems like there is no hope for GreenVille. What is Professor Fusionstein doing? Find out in the next story…
